Secular Coalition for Arizona is pleased to offer a paid part-time internship position for fall 2012. SC Arizona is seeking a highly motivated undergraduate student with a demonstrated interest in being active in the nontheistic movement. The student must live and attend school within the state of Arizona and have reliable transportation for travel throughout the state for grassroots organizing and events.
Secular Coalition for Arizona is a 501(c)4 political advocacy organization working to defend secular principles and safeguard the wall of protection between church and state. SC Arizona stands against privileging a single narrow, ideological religious viewpoint over other religions and nonreligion, and fights for equality, security, justice, and basic fairness for all Arizonans regardless of religious belief or nonbelief. The coalition consists of 15 nontheistic and secularist organizations throughout Arizona and is a state-affiliated organization of the Secular Coalition for America in Washington D.C. SC Arizona lobbies the state legislature on issues important to our constituency and works to draw attention to issues of secularism during state and local elections. SC Arizona’s internships will provide activities and opportunities to learn about and assist with lobbying and advocacy, grassroots and outreach (with a particular emphasis on campus organizing), development and fundraising, and media relations and social media networking. The fall intern will be heavily involved the 2012 elections, including organizing get-out-the vote efforts, voter registration drives, and voter education initiatives that bring secular issues into the public discourse.
The fall 2012 internship will be a part-time 15-week program and will run from August 27, 2012, through December 7, 2012. The internship will pay $7.65/hour, before taxes, with a minimum of 10 hours required per week and a maximum of 20 hours paid a week. Mileage reimbursement will be provided at $.555 per mile for driving to outstate events. Weekend and evening hours will be expected.
Once a student is chosen for the SC Arizona internship, if he or she wishes to receive academic credit for the internship rather than be paid, the student must make arrangements with his or her academic institution to qualify the SC Arizona internship for such credit. SC Arizona will cooperate fully in any process but will not fundamentally change its internship program to accommodate an academic requirement. Any student receiving academic credit is ineligible to be paid for the internship.
