The Secular Coalition for Arizona is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit advocacy organization that works to ensure a secular state government. We lobby on behalf of all individuals who believe that public policy free of religious preference is the best way to ensure freedom of conscience for Arizonans of all faiths and of none.
We also represent the Arizona nontheistic community – a vibrant and growing community of Arizonans who self-identify as atheists, agnostics, humanists, freethinkers, and other labels of personal choosing – to elected officials and government bodies in and from Arizona. We mediate the relationship between the nontheistic community and elected officials, and work to ensure that the law is never biased to the detriment and interests of Arizona's nontheists.
The Secular Coalition for Arizona is a state-affiliated organization of the Secular Coalition for America in Washington D.C.
History & Organization
In 2010, the Secular Coalition for Arizona was formed as a 501 (c)(4) nonprofit organization and the first state affiliate of the Secular Coalition for America. Our organization originated as a cooperative effort by the Arizona nontheistic community to take its collective voice to Arizona elected officials, and to do so in a meaningful and professional way.
SC Arizona is operated by a board of directors and executive staff, and receives policy influence and comment from diverse liaised nontheistic and secular groups from and throughout Arizona. Collectively, these organizations represent thousands of individuals.
