ACTION ALERT: Dispel myths about LGBTQ+ at Oct. 25th Phoenix School Board Meeting

Our friends at one.n.ten and GLSEN have alerted us to a school board issue in Central Phoenix which could use your support tomorrow, 10/25/22.

At the previous Madison School Board meeting, a group of parents spoke out against a music teacher who asked for students’ pronouns in a survey. They spread misinformation which made ill-informed connections between gender identity and sexuality, and falsely claimed that asking for pronouns led to a student’s mental health crisis. (Comments start at 8:25 at the video here.)

The board meets again tomorrow Tuesday the 25th at 6pm at 5601 N. 16th Street in Phoenix. If you or anyone in your network lives within the Madison School District or can provide professional opinion on the subject, please make thoughts and facts heard tomorrow.

Even if you can’t or don’t wish to speak, please show up to support those who will step up to the mic. We’re looking to pack the room with supporters of equality to demonstrate how many community members understand and care about this issue. (If you can, wear clothing that identifies your support.)

If you aren’t sure what to say or how to speak at a Board meeting, please contact us at info@secularaz.org for help. (GLSEN also has a wonderful video on creating testimony here.)
