Welp, the Republican-led AZ Legislature is on vacation AGAIN, even as the budget deadline looms… but there are still actions you can take this week.
First, thanks for speaking up against Prop 123, an attempt by the AZ GOP to thwart the will of the voters (yet again!) and shove universal ESAs into the AZ constitution by tying voucher expansion to teacher pay. As of now, it looks like Prop 123 may be (mostly) dead, thanks to widespread opposition. Let’s ensure we don’t see a miraculous resurrection!
If you haven’t yet, contact your lawmakers’ offices and tell them to only support a clean version of Prop 123.
Over the last week, there’ve been multiple reports of masked federal agents taking immigrants as they leave court hearings, after a judge has dismissed their cases. Those who are less at risk of being targeted by ICE are needed to stand up and offer protection to our neighbors. Borderlands Resource Initiative and Puente offer rapid response trainings on how to help. Multiple trainings are scheduled; the next one is on May 28 at 6pm in Phoenix.
