TONIGHT: White Christian nationalist crybaby Heather Rooks is trying to get followers to make a stink against anti-racism at tonight’s school board meeting.
Peoria Unified School District Governing Board will consider staff travel requests. One of them (top of page here) would send social workers to a conference to learn about evidence-based ways to increase school mental health.
Rooks is vagueposting implied concerns that one of the 123 programs offered at the conference is about shrinking the school-to-prison pipeline. It’s not clear why Rooks opposes this program, but nonetheless we expect a round of dog-whistle racism during public comments.
It’s unlikely Rooks will make an impact on the approval of the request, because — thanks in part to you — she no longer has any allies on the board. But board members and the press notice take note of who shows up to speak at these meetings. They need to understand that extremists do not make up majority of their district. Please join us in speaking at the meeting tonight.
