| 12/10/25 Here’s a great opportunity to take action in your community: Fountain Hills has opened a call for applications from individuals who would like to deliver an invocation at Town Council meetings from January-June 2026. If prayers and explicitly religious statements are given at government meetings, this will exclude many Fountain Hills residents. We encourage you to sign up to give a secular, neutral invocation. Secular AZ maintains that the best practice is to have no prayer or invocation at the beginning of meetings, as they tend to be unnecessary and divisive. If a council or board wishes to pray before a meeting, they may do so in private; the Establishment Clause makes clear that prayer should never be a part of official government business. However, since the Fountain Hills Town Council insists on opening with an invocation, it should be done without an explicitly religious statement or prayer. You can learn more here, and apply using this the online form. The deadline to apply is December 29. If you are chosen to speak, there are multiple examples of secular invocations that you can use for inspiration on our website. Let us know if you apply! |
