Hearing on Tuesday to bring “God,” guns, and administrative burdens to schools

On Tuesday, 3/22/22, AZ Senate and House Education Committees will hear the following bills:

HB2707 – forcing teachers to lead the Pledge of Allegiance in their classrooms—the phrase “under God” included—as well to facilitate a “moment of silence” (read: prayer)

SB1211 – requiring schools to post all learning materials within 3-7 days of their use in a classroom

HB2448 – designed to invite the National Rife Association into public schools to teach a mandatory “firearms safety” training class of disputed effectiveness

The first bill represents unconstitutional coercion of religious speech. The second would add new burdens to overworked school teachers. And the third is designed to push a gun safety training class that the  American Academy of Pediatrics has found is worthless, and that others have criticized for being “Joe Camel” for guns.

What you can do:

1. Contact committee members before Tuesday. (You can use our form here.)

2. If you are a Request to Speak user, sign in against these bills and/or testify against them in committee.
