5/8/25: Stand up for Trans and Non-Binary Students in Humboldt Unified School District!

May 8, 2025

Humboldt Unified School District’s next governing board meeting is this Thursday, May 8, at 5:30PM. The agenda includes a suggested “Parental Notification” policy; read it by clicking this link, selecting Thursday May 8 Meeting, selecting “View the Agenda”, and scrolling down to  “7. Discussion, D. Parental Notification.”

This policy would jeopardize the safety and well-being of transgender and nonbinary students. It forces parental notification, potentially outing students to unsupportive families, and denies students basic respect like using their chosen names and pronouns. This policy would undermine student privacy, create a hostile environment, and break down the crucial trust between students and educators.

Members of the religious right may be in attendance to demonize and scapegoat trans and non-binary students. We cannot stand by while our most vulnerable students are targeted.

Please act now to protect trans and nonbinary students by attending the school board meeting, voicing your opposition to this policy, and demanding a policy that prioritizes student safety, privacy, and respect.

What you can do:

  • Come to this Thursday’s Humboldt Unified School District meeting. Wear a shirt that identifies your values, arrive early, and fill as many seats as possible!
    • 5:30 PM Thursday, May 8
    • 6411 N Robert Rd, Prescott Valley
    • Pronghorn Ridge Middle School campus, Transportation Building, Ridge View room
