On Executive Director reached out to Washington Elementary School District regarding the ADF lawsuit against it for cancelling the district’s partnership with a discriminatory Christian college.

Here’s what she wrote:

I wanted to reach out to say thank you for your decision to non-renew the contract with ACU. I have seen some of the hateful vitriol on social media regarding this vote, but I want you to know that as your constituent in WESD, I support you and your unanimous decision to stand up to bigotry and your commitment to lead with your most vulnerable students in mind.

The ADF is a growing threat to democracy all over the country and all over the world. They were responsible for the LGBTQ ban in Uganda which makes being LGBTQ a crime, and in some cases, punishable by death. Make no mistake, this is the same kind of legislation they’re pushing and will continue to push here and throughout the world. It’s scary to stand up to behemoth organizations with large budgets and legal teams with countless lawyers, but you all did it.

Recently, at CPAC, Michael Knowles called for the eradication of trans people, and attacks against the LGBTQ communities is growing. There are nearly 400 bills across the country targeting members of the LGBTQ community, yet legislators continue to fight this targeted dehumanization of members of their communities.

I want to commend your steadfast support of the LGBTQ community. As the mother of a gay son, I know you have his back. You are on the right side of history, here, and I appreciate you beyond measure. Thank you again, for your commitment to our kids and families in WESD.

Sincerely,

Jeanne Casteen
