DEFINITIONS:

  • Christian Nationalism, White Christian Nationalism, White Supremacy,  Racism, Return to Jim Crow, White Power Only,  Christofascism
  • Christian nationalism: political ideology and cultural framework that seeks to merge American and Christian identities…to the exclusion of all other religions;  real Americans has to be Christian; fundamentalist religious believers think God has a special place for them in the United States and God ordained the country to be Christian
  • White Christian Nationalism:  overlaps and provides coverage for white supremacy and racial subjugation. Essentially white, male, Protestant, Christian property owners…
  • Patriotism: love of country

HISTORY OF CHRISTIAN NATIONALISM:

  • 312 CE (AD)  Roman emperor Constantine’s Conversion to Christianity..first state religion
  • 1096   Christian Crusades began until 1291 CE
  •  1493   Doctrine of Discovery, later in US ‘Manifest Destiny’
  • 1492- 1880 Between 2 and 5.5 million Native Americans were enslaved in the Americas
  • 1619    20-30 enslaved Africans landed at Point Comfort, (Fort Monroe) in Hampton, VA; 12.5 million African slaves in total until around 1880
  • 1808 importation of people from Africa ceased after the passing of the Act Prohibiting the Importation of  slaves
  • 1814  Major General Andrew Jackson forced upon the Native Americans  a treaty whereby they surrendered to the United States over twenty-million acres of their traditional land—about one-half of present day Alabama and one-fifth of Georgia
  • 1823 Justice John Marshall’s opinion: divested Indians from land ownership federal government to be the sole body capable of legislating over Native Americans  (Marshall’s Trilogy)
  • 1830 Congress:  Indian Removal Act  (Trail of Tears)  done 1820-1850
  • 1865 June 19  (Juneteenth) Galveston, TX believed to be the last place to receive news of Emancipation Proclamation
  • 1870   Fifteenth Amendment: extended voting rights to men of all ages:  BUT it didn’t work b/o of state laws; poll taxes, etc.
  • 1920    Women’s right to vote given Constitutionally; Black women could but state discrimination laws held sway
  • 1924   Indigenous people recognized as citizens of US by law…state laws prohibited it…still problems today
  • 1950  Asian women gained right to vote
  • 1964    Twenty-fourth Amendment: voting poll taxes illegal
  • 1965    Voting Right Acts; all adult citizens of all races and genders in the form of federal laws that enforced the amendments.
  • 1973  Heritage Foundation’s first “Mandate for Leadership” released in January 1981, containing policy proposals of reform that would make government more “efficient and effective.” (Republican document) President Ronald Reagan distributed Heritage’s book at his first Cabinet meeting. “Mandate for Leadership,” highly influential for presidential administrations since 1981
  • 2016-2020  Former President Trump implemented numerous goals of the “Manifest for Leadership” as designed by The Heritage Foundation during his tenure.  Heritage Foundation published 2018: “Trump has done 2/3 of our goals given him in the ‘Manifest for Leadership’.
  • 2019-2020   Former President Trump, while running for re-election touted phrases:  ‘it will be a stolen election if I don’t win.”  Planting fears of election fraud, mishandling, etc.
  • 2019-present:  Former President Trump has yet to concede he lost the 2020 election.  Intentional plans to create a ‘coup’ for January 6 were set in motion as early as summer of 2019; framing a ‘what if we lose’ scenario.
  • January 6, 2021 ‘Insurrection move on electoral voting’ played out as founded by “January 6 Insurrection Committee” interviews and testimonies.
  • March, 2023  “Project 2025” released by Heritage Foundation to Republican leadership to be the model for administration of the president elected in 2024.  If Republican not elected; Plan B will be implemented and carried out through Republican national and state legislatures.
  • 2012-present: Heritage Foundation has  set goals to restructure government.  Now known: Project 2025 and as the “Presidential Transition Project of the US Conservative Party,” an electoral playbook for a GOP 2025 victory.  If Republican president not elected; national Republican leaders will continue to push through legislative agendas

Politicizing BLS and reducing the data collection capacity of the agency by consolidating it into the Census Bureau would make it harder to know how our economy is doing, whether families’ paychecks are growing, and what steps we may need to take to make sure small businesses are thriving and people have enough in

Clayton County that assures workplace protections for LGBTQ+ people through making clear that discrimination against LGBTQ+ people is a form of sex discrimination prohibited by our federal civil rights laws. Project 2025 would try to enable greater workplace discrimination through allowing employers to impose their religious or moral beliefs on their employees.

Biden administration has helped to ensure protections from gender identity discrimination across many aspects of our lives, including “health care, housing, education, credit and lending services, and community safety programs.”

It could become much harder for the EPA, under the Clean Air Act, to take measures to combat greenhouse gas emissions, pollution, and other harmful effects of climate change.
