Please join us on July 7 at 7pm (PST) for a discussion of Partnering with Religion to Tackle Homelessness: Beyond the Culture Wars with Manuel Mejido Costoya

Manuel’s work explores how civil society, business and government can better partner to address development challenges and social justice issues in both rich and poor countries.  He collaborates with and studies faith-based organizations from this perspective.

 Mejido has held teaching and research appointments in the United States, Switzerland and Chile; and has worked for the United Nations in Bangkok and Geneva.  Currently he is a visiting professor in Islamabad (Pakistan), where he is also consulting on strengthening community responses to rapid urbanization.

Manuel has been the lead author of a number of U.N. reports, such as  Harnessing the Second Demographic Dividend: Population Ageing and Social Protection in Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP, 2019).  His research has appeared in journals like Politics and Governance, Social Compass and the European Journal of Development Research.  His presentation on July 7 will draw on the collected volume he edited, Land of Stark Contrasts: Faith-Based Responses to Homelessness in the United States (Fordham University Press, 2021).
