After the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida and about to go into her freshman year of high school, Maya heard the call for gun violence prevention and school safety and decided to become an advocate for change. During her three years as an organizer for March For Our Lives Arizona, she worked to grow their presence as a City Lead and as Political Co-Director. She assisted in creating the School Safety Taskforce in partnership with the Superintendent of Public Instruction’s office, and studied data driven solutions to gun violence at the John’s Hopkins Center For Gun Policy and Research Summer Youth Institute on Reducing Gun Violence in America. Maya has served as the President of Arizonans For Gun Safety and Arizona Gun Safety Action Fund since 2022 and is dedicated to the fight for a safer Arizona.
