As per usual, when a bunch of secular supporters get together, great conversation ensues… and this weekend’s Secular Summit was no exception. Several of you requested that we post the transcript of the chat that took place during the live event, so you can access the links and information we shared. The chat has been (lightly) edited to remove personal information.

02:35:02 Iain – Secular AZ: yayyyyy
02:36:12 Iain – Secular AZ: FYI just asked for questions from the audience in person to be summarized/repeated at the mic
02:40:55 Iain – Secular AZ: Amen (irony intended)
02:41:31 Iain – Secular AZ: “kind” and “nice” are very different
02:44:29 Secular AZ: Matthew Taylor’s latest book: The Violent Take it by Force
02:44:30 Secular AZ: https://icjs.org/the-violent-take-it-by-force/
02:51:04 Iain – Secular AZ: oh THIS is why they are worried about birth rates being down :)
02:54:54 James: I wonder if the rise and success of ISIS/Taliban groups set a blueprint for the Christian nationalist movement.
03:00:30 Dawn: and who is funding this vast network?
03:06:57 Secular AZ: Matthew Taylor’s book: https://icjs.org/the-violent-take-it-by-force/
03:14:49 Iain – Secular AZ: Trump won people who didn’t consume any political news in 2024 by +19, and Google searches election week were heavy on “Wait Biden isn’t running, it’s Harris?”
That’s the work. Reach the middle bubble, ignore the MAGA bubble because they are not anything we can do about whether we want to or not, and convince the blue bubble to do the same while also not doing so at the expense of any marginalized people
03:15:15 Iain – Secular AZ: (That’s Iain speaking, not a Secular AZ official position, to be clear lol)
03:17:10 Dawn: I didn’t catch the book you said to read for those of us who want to understand why these networks are working so well. Could you please repeat that?
03:17:23 Dawn: or can someone type it here in chat?
03:17:40 Becky : The Rise of Network Christianity was the book.

03:52:19 Mary: Greetings from Tucson! Just got back from memorial service for John McLean, the LD17 Senate candidate that was killed by a drunk driver just the day after conceding to Vince Leach. Very moving stories about this amazing man.
